We asked CATCH's scientific advisors:
CATCH is set in a near future where antibiotics have stopped working due to antibiotic resistance.
Antibiotic resistance occurs when an antibiotic drug has lost its ability to effectively kill bacteria or control their growth. The bacteria have evolved to be "resistant" to the drug, and continue to multiply in the presence of the antibiotic, so continue to infect and potentially harm the person they are infecting.
